Fall 2018 Comedy Series

•  Friday, September 21
•  Friday, October 19
•  Friday, November 18

OUR HOST — MIKE DORVAL!

After a mere three months of performing, Mike won the NH Comedy Festival, defeating some of New England’s most established comics and he quickly climbed the comedic ranks to become one of the youngest headliners in Boston history. He’s been praised by the Boston Globe as “One of Boston’s Best.” Mike has been featured on Comedy Central’s Laugh Riots, starred in numerous TV commercials, and toured overseas for the USO. He has served as Comic In Residence at The Comedy Studio and is a favorite of the Boston Comedy Festival. He’s written and performed several one man shows which have had runs at the Charles Playhouse and Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater.

OCTOBER’S HEADLINER — BENARI POULTEN

Benari Poulten is a comedian and writer currently living in NYC. He was an Emmy-nominated writer/producer for FS1’s Garbage Time with Katie Nolan and is a former senior producer and contributor for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore on Comedy Central, as well as a Comedy Advisor for the Armed Services Arts Partnership. As a stand-up comic, he has played clubs across the country, from The Comedy Studio in Boston to The Improv in LA and he has toured nationally and internationally with the G.I.’s of Comedy, most recently doing shows in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Eastern Europe. He is an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and is affectionately known as “G.I. Jew.”

FEATURING —TOOKY KAAVANAUGH

With razor sharp wit and a charm once described as “ineffable,” Tooky (rhymes with cookie) Kavanagh speaks her mind with honesty, charisma, and edge. Tooky has performed in New York, Denver, and all over New England. Her standup credits include Laugh Boston, Nick’s Comedy Stop, December 2018 Comic in Residence at The Comedy Studio, The Rockwell Theater, The 2017 Women In Comedy Festival, Thunderfest 2017, The 2017 Boston Comedy Festival, Boston Comedy Chicks, The 2017 Boston Comedy Arts Festival, The Producer’s Club, and Comic Sit-In at The Riot Theater. And she was selected to audition for the prestigious Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. She can be seen regularly at venues such as The Comedy Studio, ImprovBoston, and Laugh Boston. (Also, she’s the one who described her own charm as “ineffable,” but it’s still true!)

FEATURING — SAM IKE

Sam Ike is a comedian from Boston. His unique stage presence and observations have made him loved by audiences nationally. He’s performed in comedy festivals including Limestone, SF Sketchfest, Big Sky, and the Second City/NBC Universal Breakout Festival in Chicago. He’s also been featured on NPR’s You’re the Expert, The Bechdel Cast on How Stuff Works Network, and The Check Spot on Sirius XM. Often, you can see Sam as the cohost of the popular weekly show, Cityside Comedy (or rewriting this bio).

'INLAND/ISLAND' RECEPTION

Join painter Louise Arnold for the reception for her show INLAND/ISLAND, on exhibit in The Gallery at Villageworks this Fall.

Louise Arnold is a landscape painter with a design background in Landscape Architecture. She works both en plein air and from her sketches and photographs. Louise has been fortunate enough to visit and inhabit the landscapes of both Northern Vermont and Prince Edward Island, Canada. Each provides unique experiences: the region of Vermont that she works in tends to be more enclosed and PEI - surrounded by water - more open and expansive. The paintings on display in the Gallery at Villageworks explore the character of these two distinct landscapes and the reciprocal experience of Louise’s own personality interacting with them.

The reception is Free and Open to the Public.

HOLIDAY FARMERS MARKET IN THE GALLERY

The Acton-Boxborough Farmers Market hosts its annual indoor Thanksgiving Holiday Market on Nov. 18, 10am–1pm in The Gallery at Villageworks in West Acton, 525 Massachusetts Avenue.

On offer will be an assortment of vegetables and fruits, eggs, baked treats, bagels, meats, maple syrup and products, chowders, pastas, honey and bee products, artisanal hard ciders, jams, salsas, pickles, relishes, dips, spreads, condiments, hot sauces, pet treats, and crafted goods.

The ABFM is a producer-only market: vendors may sell only the produce and/or value-added products that they themselves grow or make. A minority of farmers markets operates on this model, which offers market-goers a wonderful chance to get to know the farmers and vendors that grow and produce the food they take home, to learn about producer practices, varieties, etc., and to understand, first-hand, producers’ integrity and innovation.

The ABFM happily accepts SNAP/EBT benefits for use at market, and provides a partial “match” to SNAP users (while project funds last). Visit the ABFM SNAP page or the ABFM stall at market for details.

The ABFM has been promoting good food, supporting sustainable agriculture, and building community since 2009. ABFM: Real Food from Real People! For more, visit: www.ABFarmersMarket.org.
