Winter/Spring 2018 Comedy Series
•  Friday, February 23
•  Friday, March 23
•  Friday, April 20

Boston Comedy Night returns to West Acton Villageworks with a four-event Winter/Spring 2018 series. The curator and host of our series is WES HAZARD — named one of “5 Boston comedians to watch” by Boston Globe Magazine and 2017 winner of a New England Emmy Award. Each night, he brings some of the best and brightest comics working the New England circuit. The resumés of the comics we’ve presented to date are impressive. They have appeared on Comedy Central, The TV Guide Channel, Comedy Bang! Bang! Live! Podcast, NPR’s Commonwealth Journal, Lifetime’s Girls Night Out, and several local television stations. They have performed in countless comedy festivals, both regional and further afield, have hosted many regional events, and have appeared in a number of feature films. We are so please to be bringing Wes and his gang back to the 'burbs this winter.

DINING OFFER: True West Brewery offers 15% off food before the show for advance ticket holders. Just show your server a digital or printed receipt.

FUGITIVE STORIES: "SURRENDER"

Each month, we bring Moth and Massmouth winners, along with others from the local community, to share their stories. Do you want to tell your story on our theme? Sign up at the cafe or fill out our form online. We'll get back to you to let you know if you're in. We also invite audience members who are interested in telling a three- to five-minute story on our theme to drop their name in a hat. If chosen, they’ll tell their tale.

February Theme: “WHAT I DID FOR LOVE”
Did you travel half way around the world to propose to your beloved? Did you listen to your Dad's tediously long story for the 10th time without wincing? Did you massage your wife's feet just “cause?” Did you give up the work opportunity of a lifetime to take a chance on a new relationship? Did you birth a baby? What have you done for love?

FEATURED TELLERS

Don Picard
Don Picard is a Moth storyteller who shares his own moving life moments with humor and humility. He has worked in software development for nearly 30 years and is currently employed for JobCase, “a place to manage all things work-related, especially the wisdom, experience and connections” of other job hunters. Don was a double major in Theatre Arts and Computer Science at Cornell, and chose to work as an engineer in order to be able to live in Cambridge and feed his family. Don enjoys telling live stories about his kids, husband, and extended family as it is fun, therapeutic, and allows him to exercise the other half of his college degree so he doesn’t become bitter.

Brendyn Schneider
Professional storyspinner, published writer, performance instructor, host, and TedX Coach, Brendyn Schneider is a Boston-based storyteller who’s been featured at WGBH Studios, Emerson College, Coolidge Corner Theater, Somerville Theatre, and other action-packed venues across New England. He is a Moth StorySLAM winner, a winner of multiple Massmouth regional and semifinal slams, as well as a three-time finalist for Massmouth’s annual “BigMouthOff” show. He’s also been featured as performer and host at Northeast Storytelling’s annual conference, “Sharing the Fire.” A Fugitive Stories veteran, Brendyn takes his audiences on story-trips of wit through the follies of growing up and the everyday slog. For more, please venture to brendynschneider.com.

Aaron Wolfe
Aaron Wolfe is a filmmaker, a Moth GrandSLAM winning storyteller, and occasional host of the Moth StorySLAMS in Boston. His films have been featured at Sundance Film Festival, the New York Times, and his film “Record/Play” was shortlisted for an Oscar. Aaron is the host and producer of the podcast “First Time, Long Time” where he tells stories about sports for people who may not like sports.

Fertility: It takes a Village

Fertility: It takes a Village

Join Angela Noelle Martin from Acupuncture of Boston for an informative lunch webinar:

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but for those who are trying to conceive, (TTC), it also takes a village to conceive a child. Often times patients report that they wish they had more support, or wish they knew (fill in the blank) when they were in the process of conceiving, either on their own, or with Assisted Reproductive Technology, (ART). Join me for a very informative and inspirational afternoon at my lunch webinar, 'Fertility, It Takes A Village' on Tuesday, February 27 at 12pm. I'll combine my 10 years of clinical experience in working with fertility patients, as well as present perspectives based on interviews from actual former patients of mine, who have graciously shared their experiences on what worked, what didn't work, and how they most felt supported during this challenging time in their lives.

If you are actively trying to conceive, plan on conceiving soon, or just looking for information on the fertility world, please join me. Men are also welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be a Q&A at the end.

Program will either be a FB live or Zoom presentation. Stay tuned for venue information.

A NATION STILL AT RISK? EDUCATION REFORM & DEMOCRACY

35 years after the government report  A Nation At Risk sounded an alarm about our schools and the future of our society, there are still deep concerns about the level of education attained by our students and what that means for our democracy, which has itself come under scrutiny during these times of intense emotion around politics and elections.  Acton Coffee House will contribute to the conversation with a panel that includes:

Mike Capuano, U.S. Representative, 7th District
Jamie Eldridge, Mass. State Senator, Middlesex and Worcester District
Sarah Cannon Holden, Lincoln Town Moderator, Lawyer, former School Committee member
Cecilia Hylton, Communications Associate, Barr Foundation
Colleen Meaney, Director, Theodore R. Sizer Teachers’ Center
Hal Salzman,  Professor of Planning and Public Policy, Edward J. Bloustein School, Rutgers U.
Andrew Shen, Principal, R.J.Grey Junior High, Acton
Arthur Unobskey, Superintendent, Wayland Public Schools

Art Reception for Jeri Kim

Join Jeri Kim for a reception celebrating her photography exhibit in Wellness at Villageworks:

The Natural World on Washi: The natural world as seen through a digital lens, printed on Japanese paper.
Inspired by the simple yet equally complex beauty found in plants, fruit, and landscape, Jeri Kim wanted to combine images captured on her phone or digital camera, with elements of
something handmade. This exhibit shows works that have been printed on bamboo coated
paper made in Japan, designed specifically for digital and alternative photography.
